- Turn the heat up high thinking it will dry things faster. High heat with trapped humidity creates exactly the conditions mold needs.
- Assume the floor is dry because the surface feels dry. Hardwood and tile can feel dry at the surface while the subfloor beneath holds significant moisture. A moisture meter tells the real story, surface feel does not.
- Pull up hardwood flooring prematurely. Depending on the species and construction, hardwood can sometimes be dried in place. Pulling it up without assessment may destroy salvageable material.
